The year is 1986. The game is professional wrestling. The territory system – the patchwork of different wrestling organizations that covers the US and Canada – is starting to fall apart. The advent of television means that people are able to see matches in other parts of the country. Vince McMahon’s WWF is steadily growing in power, and some of the more observant viewers are starting to wonder if this whole thing is, you know, fake.
You are wrestling for Snake River Championship Wrestling, the premier wrestling authority of southern Idaho. From matches held in high schools to church basements to parking lots, you’ve drawn crowds in the high double digits for years. But SRCW has been losing business to the higher-profile Wyoming Beatdown League, and Reaganomics hasn’t helped at all. Something has to give.
IdaDyne Mining & Metals, the poorly organized conglomerate that owns SRCW, has made an agreement with Q. Steve Dougson, showboating owner of the WBDL, to have a unification match in Yellowstone National Park. The winner gets to keep both wrestling organizations, and control both territories.
The best wrestlers the SRCW has to offer will take on WBDL’s Gnarly Carl, fresh off his victory over Sprawlin’ Mooch Boogler, and his team of Hurt Makers. The only problem is that nobody knows who the best wrestlers in the SRCW are. The old records were destroyed for tax purposes, and the old boss, Asa Fernwald, was let go for similar reasons.
Your new boss is Wendy Hovnatanian, daughter of IdaDyne president Walter Hovnatanian. Wendy just graduated from business school, and she thinks what SRCW needs is a pay-per-view. The stable of wrestlers will fight each other on a replica 1850s steamboat that has been chartered to sail up Snake River to Yellowstone.
But horrors! Some of you have been bribed by WBDL (for as much as $500) to undercut Wendy’s good work. If the traitors win, you can kiss SRCW goodbye when they throw the unification match.
ROLES
12 wrestlers (vanilla town)
4 traitors (wolves)
1 rogue wrestler (serial killer – pursuing wild dreams of making it to the big time by getting rid of everyone else)
1 booker (detective, town aligned – can investigate one wrestler per night)
1 TV camera operator (jailer, town aligned – can cut a promo with one wrestler each night, preventing their night action)
1 TV host (custom role – the host flip-flops alignments between odd and even-numbered days, can talk to the “dead” wrestlers in the Graveyard, and can share that info with the rest of you. Does not have access to the wolf QT, or count towards lynch-or-lose situations. The flip-flopping happens at the beginning of each day, after the previous night actions have gone through.)
