Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Dec. 12

Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Dec. 12 – Champ Lakedra ran a category of state capital anagrams to build a healthy first round lead, then Ian rallied nicely in DJ to take a slight advantage on DD2.

Lekedra was up to the challenge to regain the top spot, but Ian remained within two-thirds of Ladkedra’s score and well ahead of third-place Sarah. So with a properly-sized wager, Ian could take the win if Lakedra missed FJ without having to be correct himself. Going into FJ it was Lakedra with $15,600, Ian at $11,600 and Sarah with $2,000.

DD1 – GOOD CAUSES – J. Robert Atkinson, blinded in an accident, founded this inst. after transcribing books for his own library (Lakedra lost $1,000)

DD2 – EUROPEAN HISTORY – Following a military coup, in the mid-1970s, this nation granted independence to all of its colonies except Macau (Ian won $3,000)

DD3 – 5,5 – Named for a frontiersman, it has a blade curved to a sharp point at the end (Sarah won $1,000. At the time Sarah had -$200 and was trailing both opponents by over $10,000, so the only reason I can think of for not betting the full $2,000 was fear of finishing in the red.)

FJ – FRENCH CITIES – The name of this city in the Departement du Nord comes from the Flemish for “church of the dunes”

Everyone missed FJ, but Ian didn’t take advantage of it because he bet $7,599, dropping him to $4,001. That protected him from Sarah but didn’t leave him enough after Lakedra made a standard wager of $7,601. Lakedra held on with $7,999 for a two-day total of $32,800.

Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the “harmless” creature killed with a bow in a famous poem is an albatross.

Overvalued clue dept.: $2,000 for knowing the film in which Mookie throws a trash can through the window of Sal’s Famous Pizzeria in Brooklyn is “Do the Right Thing”.

This day in Trebekistan: Be it for a silly superstition, a Lego collection or a dedicated doctor treating female inmates, Alex has a “Good for you” for every occasion.
