As a famous man once said, “Electric word, ‘life.’ It means forever and that’s a mighty long time. But I’m here to tell you there’s something else: the after world.”

Cinema has often depicted the world beyond. Typically it’s stemmed in Christian imagery, but sometimes you see someone enter the gates of Valhalla or honor one’s ancestor’s in Dias de Los Muertes. The afterlife can be a big reveal: perhaps someone was dead all along, and that’s why they met Megan Fox in angel wings?

Can the afterlife just be a virtually reality program where the recently deceased have had their thoughts downloaded? Or maybe it’s a boring lobby where you have to wait your turn behind the man with a shrunken head. The afterlife can be depicted as a sterile white room or a vibrant kaleidoscope of color.

Today’s bonus prompt: what is your favorite cinematic depiction of the afterlife?
