On September 27, 1994, R.E.M. released the album Monster. Where previous albums had relied on a more folksy sound, for Monster, the members of R.E.M. decided to make a rock album. This being R.E.M., it wasn’t exactly straight-forward hard rock, focusing instead on distorted guitar sounds.
As a long-time R.E.M. fan, Monster honestly isn’t one of my favorite R.E.M. albums, but it’s not one of my least favorites, either. There are a couple songs that are pretty good, and some that are fun to sing along with, as well.
Which brings me to our video selection for tonight: “Bang and Blame”
