Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Jun. 25 – Introducing the Teen Tournament contestants as the second round continues:
– Ryan, an 8th-grader from South Dakota, whose dad likes Chuck Norris, mom not so much;
– Eesha, a senior from California, is a digital artist; and
– Shriya, a sophomore from Michigan, works with a non-profit to spread geographic awareness.
The lead going into FJ was up for grabs for all three players on the last clue of DJ, and when Eesha missed, it was Ryan showing the way with $11,200 vs. $10,400 for Shriya and $9,200 for Eesha.
DD1 – $1,000 – PEOPLE IN AMERICAN HISTORY – After his first wife died in 1832, this religious leader wed as many as 56 more times (Shriya won $1,200 from her score of $1,600.)
DD2, $1,600 – TRANSPORTATION – In 1932 a 3-seat Stinson was the entire fleet flying between Bristol Bay & Anchorage for what would be this airline (Shriya lost $2,000 from her total of $9,600.)
DD3, $1,200 – FIND A SYNONYM – This synonym for a news reporter & a person who keeps a diary comes to us partly from the French (Ryan won $2,000 to break a tie with Shriya at $8,000.)
FJ – OTHER NATIONS’ PRESIDENTS – This nation’s 1st 8 presidents were all born in the U.S.: the 1st local-born president came in 1884, 37 years after independence
Everyone missed FJ, so wagering strategy would be decisive.
Eesha, in a close third place, chose not to play for the possible Triple Stumper by betting everything. Shriya, instead of wagering just enough to cover a possible double-up by Eesha, also went all-in.
These wagering mistakes left Ryan to advance with just $1,599 after dropping his bet of $9,601.
That’s before our time: No one knew the performer of the 80s hit “Dress You Up” is Madonna, and the audience was audibly agitated that the players couldn’t identify Mick Jagger in an old photo.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who was Brigham Young?
DD2 – What is Alaska Airlines? (Shriya was ruled incorrect with “Alaskan Airlines”.)
DD3 – What is journalist?
FJ – What is Liberia?
