Werewolf 86 – The Shining – Day Six

The kitchen was cold and deserted under the overhead fluorescent bars. She went to the rack where the carving knives hung from their magnetized strips. She took the longest and sharpest, wrapped it in a dish towel, and left the kitchen, turning off the lights as she went.

“This whole place is absolutely cockadoodle! But I’ll straighten it out. This is just in case. I’m not stupid ya know…”

Before she left the kitchen walked over to the freezer and looked at the person inside. “You’re safe in there! Now, why are you looking at me like that? Silly goose. I’m helping!” When she turned around she saw. She slowly closed the freezer door. There were standing there. All four. Annie smiled. She wasn’t afraid. “You’re not good, you’re all just a bunch of lying ol’ dirty birdies!” She started unrolling the dish towel behind her back as she took a step backwards, closer to the freezer. “Dirty birds!” She was clutching the knife, her hand was shaking.

(! Get a hold of yourself, girl !)

They smiled. Their prey was in sight. They had nothing to fear from this one. As one of them reached out and grabbed her neck the knife fell from her hand. The sound as it hit the floor seemed to echo throughout the kitchen, throughout the hotel, but no one came running. No one could help Annie. So she ran. She would resist. She ran and ran and ran. The ballroom. Hide behind something. That’s when she heard it. Music? Voices? (party)

(???WHAT PARTY???)

For just a moment her mind had filled with an image so real that it seemed to be a memory…Lights…hundreds, maybe thousands of them. Lights and colors, the pop of champagne corks, a forty-piece orchestra playing Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood.” (stop thinking so crazy–)

She was shaking when the confetti started to fall. From where? It fell. And it moved around her neck. Tighter. Around and around. Pulling the air out of her lungs. “D—d—-irty bi—rds.”

Annie Wilkes (Admirax) has died. She was the MOTHER.

In the morning her body was discovered. There was no sign of what killed her. She almost looked peaceful, like she was sleeping on the floor of the ballroom without a care in the world. The only sign that something had happened was the missing knife. The hotel creaked around them. Outside snow had begun to spit down from a sky like lead.

Rules

The rules at the Overlook Hotel are fairly simple. During the Day, you will socialize and vote. You will have until Twilight to vote to kill one of the guests that you suspect is actually a ghostly visitor seeking vengeance against the living. The guest who receives a majority vote (or who has the most votes by Twilight) will be thrown into the Hedge Maze where they will either freeze to death or be consumed by the void. If a majority is reached before official Twilight, the Day will automatically end (even if your charming narrator is not here to call Twilight). In the case of a tie, the Hotel’s victim will be decided by luck (RNG).

The Head Chef has one opportunity in the game to die in place of another player. This can be done during the Day (before Twilight) or during the Night. If they activate their power during the Day, the person with the most votes will not die. Instead, the Head Chef will die. The person who was spared can also not be killed that night. The Head Chef also as the option of using their power at Night. They can choose a specific player to protect. If that player is targeted for death (and The Mother doesn’t interfere), the Head Chef will die in their place. The Head Chef keeps their power until they die.

If one “Twin” is killed, the other will also die.

During the Night, the Mother, the Gifted Child, and the Winter Caretaker (appointed after certain conditions are met) will choose targets in their personal QTs. The Vengeance-Seeking Ghosts will choose their target in their shared QT.

Jailing happens first, then investigation, and then the killing/recruiting. If a player is jailed they cannot be killed, investigated, or recruited. If the Gifted Child is jailed they cannot receive messages from Tony. If the Winter Caretaker is jailed they cannot kill. If the Head Chef is jailed they cannot use their power. If the Ghostly Bartender is jailed they cannot recruit. The Mother cannot jail themselves or the same player two nights in a row.

Hotel Guests (Town) win when all Vengeance-Seeking Ghosts (Wolves) and the Winter Caretaker (Serial Killer) are dead. The Vengeance-Seeking Ghosts win when they outnumber the Hotel Guests and the Winter Caretaker is eliminated. The Winter Caretaker wins when they outlive everyone else.

Vanilla Town QT Message

You are a HOTEL GUEST. Welcome to the Overlook Hotel. We hope you enjoy your stay. There have been reports of some strange activity, and we admit that there have been…accidents in the past. But your safety is our priority, and despite the fact that we’ve left you in the hotel with only a Head Chef and a Winter Caretaker to tend to your needs should not alarm you in the slightest.

If there happens to be trouble, please know that your only power is your vote. There is no way to contact the outside world.

Please note that you will need to make a handful of game-related comments per Day (three to six at least). Your narrator has been told that the hotel gets very angry when people don’t participate, so you will be *clears throat* dealt with, if you don’t participate.

NO EDITING OR DELETING for any reason, including typos.

Directly quoting or screenshotting QT is not allowed.

Remember to have fun! This is a game of murder, but it is still just a game.
