World Cup Russia 2018: Day 2, the Spanish-Portuguese War Resumes

Well that was certainly an opening game, God Saudi Arabia was way way worse than predicted. Their defense was slow and out of position and seemed like had only heard about football but never played it. Russia, as is tradition lately, had another injury. Hope y’all had 5-0 on your brackets

Anyway today looks great, day 2 has three matches including the best one of the group stage. Lets take a look:

Group A: Egypt v Uruguay

An apparently healthy Mo Salah and the Pharaohs face against the strongest team in group A.  Uruguay’s weakest link is probably their midfield so Salah and Egypt’s other famous Mo, Elneny could take advantage there. They might try to defend, not concede many goals and decide their future in the next two games, I guess it will depend on the first 30 minutes or so. Unless Suárez starts biting people early on

Group B: Iran v Morocco

In a group where the first two teams seem a given, Iran and Morocco will only have this game to shine. Moroccan teams are usually fun to watch and pretty offensive and if Hakim Ziyech’s club form is any indication this shouldn’t be the exception, while Iran has heart and a good coach in Carlos Queiroz. Should be a good match

Group B: Portugal v Spain

The best match of the first round faces the reigning Euro 2016 champs and a Spanish team that had almost no trouble to qualify in UEFA, but then shot themselves in the foot by sacking their manager the day before the World Cup started. Cristiano Ronaldo will need all the help he can get from his teammates, while Spain will try to have a good start to dispel the ghosts from the last World Cup. This match will likely decide who ends first in the group (and avoids Uruguay in the round of 16)
