So what’s worse. A blindingly self-aware party of scalawags in charge of our country currently setting everything on fire, or a party of true believers? Bob Corker said on Wednesday that he felt that “It’s not a good place for any party to end up with a cult-like situation as it relates to a president that happens to be of, purportedly, of the same party.” I prefer to think the former. This indicates that they at least know there’s a problem, but they’re doing nothing to actually fix it.
Lindsay ‘Huckleberry’ Graham quipped that the “GOP would have to be organized to be a cult”, which is cute. It’s a solid burn, but also something of a lie. Republicans in Congress continue to support him so long as there agenda can be passed. Indeed, even Jeff Flake, best known in mainstream media for being a frequent Trump critic, votes 84% of the time with him. It doesn’t matter if he’s the President, the important thing is that their team is in power.
