Anecdote from attending Super Troopers 2, a movie about fuck-up Vermont Highway Patrol officers on drugs, in a Vermont theater, on Weed Day: I never smelled weed. That doesn’t mean the people in attendance weren’t high, though. I heard a woman behind me specifically complain that a pre-movie commercial about prescription opioid abuse was harshing her buzz.
In honor of being better than it had any right to be, Super Troopers 2 made more money than it had any right to make. People of all intoxication levels turned out, to the tune of $14.7M against a budget of $13.5M. It also had a per-theater take of $7,213, the best in the top 10.
Opening just above it was I Feel Pretty, a comedy about a woman who isn’t pretty but feels that way after a head injury. It earned $16.2M against a budget of $32M.
Rampage fell faster than A Quiet Place, which reclaimed first place in its third week. Truth or Dare fell 58%, from third to fifth, while Ready Player One (#6) and Blockers (#7) both fell about 35%. Black Panther lost only 20%, and is now in eighth.
Poorly reviewed thriller Traffik opened in ninth, while Telugu-language drama film Bharat Ane Nenu opened in 11th.
