Doctor Who has been around for over fifty years, give or take a few years where they weren’t actually on the air, and when they did that TV movie, and when they were only radio plays and comic books and novels, and well, it’s still been around for a while. Thirteen doctors so far, as we all may know.
But ask any fan of the show, and they’ll probably have THEIR doctor. The one they started with, or the one who stuck most with them, who is the one they will always argue for being the best. For those of us in the US, you’re pretty likely to encounter either fans of the Fourth Doctor, or Nine through Twelve, mostly because they’re the ones we’ve seen the most of. Unless you’re one of those nerds who actually watched the older seasons and realized that, holy shit, there are other Doctors who are actually kind of awesome. Like THIS guy (seen here with also possibly the coolest of the classic companions):
Yes, this is the Seventh Doctor’s night thread, because damn it, Seven was a bad ass once he got into his stride. A devious fellow with terrible fashion sense, able to play the spoons, and one of the only doctors who didn’t whip out a Sonic Screwdriver at every occasion (mostly because he was never actually given one to use, poor Sylvester), he was the last of the classic doctors. The show was cancelled while he was still the Doctor, which was just the worst considering they were actually starting to hit their stride again. Plus, he had Ace, who was the only one crazy enough to take on a Dalek with a baseball bat and survive the encounter.
Favorite serial: The Happiness Patrol
“There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea’s asleep, and the rivers dream. People made of smoke, and cities made of song. Somewhere there’s danger, somewhere there’s injustice—and somewhere else, the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace, we’ve got work to do!”
