Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Nov. 29

Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Nov. 29 – After a dreadful first round for all three players, champ Matt recovered to control the action in DJ and chose to defend his lead late on DD3 rather than go for the runaway. This proved to be a good move as he missed, so going into FJ it was Matt with $10,800 vs. $8,200 for Missy and $7,000 for Shawn.

DD1 – I GET A KICK OUT OF HISTORY – Phew! As a boy on the Indiana frontier, this President was kicked unconscious by a horse but survived (Matt lost $1,000)

DD2 – CAPITALS IN OCEANIA – Majuro, capital of the Marshall Islands, is part of this kind of coral island that encloses a lagoon (Matt won $2,000)

DD3 – BUILDING, ROMAN – Over 2,000 years after it was built, the bridge of Alcantara in Western Spain still crosses this river (Matt lost $2,000)

FJ – FAMILIAR PHRASES – In the 1870s this phrase meant a hairdo, using a British word for bangs; now it’s an extreme group on the edge of a cause

Shawn gave up his chance at a Triple Stumper win by betting everything, and that mistake proved costly as everyone missed. Matt dropped $5,601 to hang on with $5,199 and now has a two-day total of $25,998.

TV troubles: Being given the settings for the shows didn’t help the players identify “The Good Fight”, “Claws” and most surprisingly, “Deadwood”.

Missing the layup: For a clue about the W. Somerset Maugham novel, after Shawn missed with “On Human Bondage”, his opponents didn’t jump in with “Of Human Bondage”.

That’s Before Our Time: Lyrics didn’t lead the players to the titles of Motown classics “You Better Shop Around” and “Heat Wave” (the latter miss Alex seemed to take personally).

Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who was Lincoln?
DD2 – What is an atoll?
DD3 – What is the Tagus?
FJ – What is lunatic fringe?
