YOUR BOX OFFICE NUMBERS (from Box Office Mojo)

  1. Thor: Ragnarok
  2. Daddy’s Home 2
  3. Murder on the Orient Express
  4. A Bad Moms Christmas
  5. Jigsaw

It’s a good week to be Will Ferrel (and also Mark Wahlberg, I guess, if you’re into that sort of thing) as Daddy’s Home 2 opened with $30M this past weekend. It beat out the star-laden Murder on the Orient Express remake for the coveted first-place-after-Ragnarok spot. Thor held the lead in its sophomore weekend, but at the cost of a 54% drop.

With #5-9 made up of holdovers, it’s worth noting that Lady Bird rose to 10th place as it went from four to 37 theaters. The Christian message film Let There Be Light gained another 131 theaters but lost 30% week over week. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri debuted at #24 with $320,000 on four screens. No other new films opened in the top 40.

Also, because writing about losers is more fun than writing about winners, Suburbicon – now in its third week – lost 92.8% of gross and 1,765 theaters compared to its second week. This lands it in 35th, and sets the stage for somebody seeing it in a Redbox two months from now and thinking “Huh, that sounds pretty good.”
