You cannot accuse this week of not having enough matchups. This day is a groaning feast of games, and the first course is a buffet of its own. Navy has a chance to do something really funny against #5 Notre Dame, and I always love a good laugh, who doesn’t? Fresh-off-a-loss Texas Tech hosts an also-ranked Arizona, and Syracuse hosts #19 SMU. The ‘cuse haven’t been having the best year, but we wish them a speedy recovery. #25 Wisconsin goes to Iowa, the day’s leading contender for “Boring Big Ten Game That Sets The Sport Back 100 Years.” The Wolf Pack host Cal, who last time I checked are not exactly near the Atlantic Coast, but conference game nonetheless. Auburn travels to Ole Miss – the War Eagle hasn’t flown very well this year, but an upset win would be just what the pilot ordered. Second course leads off with Stanford at Louisville, followed by Florida at Georgia, and Minnesota at Indiana. Upset darlings Cincinnati host #6 Utah, a chance to play conference spoilers once more. For the evening course, the #1 Miami Hurricanes head to Darth Carolina, and I would love for nothing more than my favorite team slaying the Hooded One. USC hosts #2 Ohio State, a suspiciously interesting matchup despite USC not being ranked. #11 Texas hosts Mississippi State – I am on record this year of calling Mississippi State frauds, but I will laugh wholeheartedly if they can pull off a road upset. Oh, and apparently it’s some kind of pagan celebration today, so we might see a lot of questionable alternate uniforms.
