In the wild world of G.I. Joe, the bad guys–Cobra–name their basic soldiers “Viper,” often led by another word to indicate that Viper type’s area of specialization. For example, Rock-Viper is a climber, and Hydro-Viper is an aquatic operative.

Night-Viper, then, is member of Cobra who works at night. Because Cobra, in spite of not being able to afford hazard pay for its employees, can nonetheless afford to constantly develop and produce very expensive vehicles and equipment, if follows that Night-Viper has some really sick gear:

• a directional sound amplifier,
• a laser range-finder,
• a passive infrared detector that can spot the body heat of a squirrel at 100 yards,
• synthetic composite construction to reduce your own infrared signature and defy most ground radars?

The good news is that the Night Thread uses the same room as the Day Thread, so there are lights and now that everyone carries a phone with them, night-vision gear isn’t really necessary any more.
