This is part of a series of mini-reviews of The Police’s studio albums, ranked worst to best. (Don’t worry; I’ll keep them short.)
And the Number One Police album, is….of course….
SYNCHRONICITY
They went out at the top of their game. An almost perfect record, with a lot of eerie arrangements and lyrics. The only down side is that Summers and Copeland were shortchanged to Sting’s vision. But what a vision.
Best Songs: Synchronicity I, Walking In Your Footsteps, Miss Gradenko (Copeland), Synchronicity II, and all of Side Two.
Worst Songs: Why they didn’t use Andy Summer’s masterpiece Someone To Talk To, I have no idea. I suppose Sting vetoed it. Instead, we got the atrocious Mother, which for years I skipped over once I got this album on CD.
BTW, I bought the album cover with a yellow strip on top and a skeleton on the right, which is all I remember about which one of 36 different configurations it was. I just liked the artistic composition best.
