Movieacados! A few months ago I was getting ready for a pretty major life change, and I had a lot of things to consider and take care of before it happened. Getting the house in order was a big deal and a lot of things to do, as was getting my career work complete in advance of an extended period I would not be there. I had to get financial affairs in order as well including meetings with lawyer (there was only one, but multiple meetings), and physically I had to be ready for this change so upping activity before was important. On top of all this I had to do research, to find out what was going, what is now going on and what will be going on in the future. This was many many hours of doing stuff, sometimes intensely, sometimes not, but I basically just wrote it all out in a montage of a few sentences that you could read in a minute or so for ease of conveying information.

And montages in movies is a time honoured trope, particularly sports or fighting movies where there is usually some kind of training/getting back into shape montage, enough that they South Park guys wrote a song about it that was used in both the show and if I remember correctly the Team America movie. Travel montages are also popular as big road trip movies often cover large distances and it would be silly to show everything the characters are doing especially stuff that does not have much to do with the story but could make a fun image for a few seconds without dragging the overall plot and pacing down. There are planning montages, aging montages, and nothing wraps up a battle quickly quite like a montage. Montages are also often set to music (like the aforementioned Training Montage song), this can really drive the narrative home and/or tie it all together depending on what the film makers are trying to achieve with their montage, Rocky’s training montages would have packed very little punch without the classic music.
