Weekly Video Games Thread Wallows in the Shallows

Happy Monday, folks, and welcome to the Weekly Video Games Thread!

One of the many video game hot takes I’ve collected over the years is that water levels—some of the most despised areas in the medium—are not inherently bad. Certainly, there are many that don’t work, many that are slow and plodding, many that do just make you feel stuck and tired. The slower and more languid pace that always seems to be there doesn’t help. But water levels can be great! They can provide architecture and level design that’s totally unique, create puzzles out of gravity, pressure, and one-way movement, and offer stunning vistas of coral and kelp.

And so, now that Pokémon Pokopia‘s new underwater DLC level is out, I’d like to ask: what are your favorite water, underwater, and water-adjacent levels? This can include beaches, coves, shipwrecks, oceans, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, docks, and yes, even some sewers. I like these to be a bit more fun, a bit more positive.

Of course, and as always, what did you play this weekend?
