Whew! Round 1 is finally finished! And, boy howdy, that last set of matchups had some darn close contests!

Oh, sure, we had the expected blowouts of The Lion King vs. Oliver and Company and Frozen vs. Frozen II (63-to-3, and 60-to-zero, respectively). But we also had the shockingly close contest between The Princess and the Frog and The Sword in the Stone, with Tiana only barely coming out ahead, 32-to-30. Either Princess and the Frog is less popular than I thought, or Sword in the Stone is moreso, because I did not see that photo finish coming.

Also surprising was the close contest ‘tween Atlantis: The Lost Empire and Treasure Planet. Not that the contest being close was a surprise, but that, while Atlantis won, it did so with only 22 votes to Treasure Planet‘s 19. Those are far lower vote totals than in any of the other matchups. Have fewer people seen either of those movies, and so decided not to vote? Or is it that they’ve got enough in common, fans of one are likely fans of the other, and couldn’t bring themselves to choose? Or is it some of each?

No time to ponder those questions, though, because Round 2 is about to begin! As the survivors of Round 1 face off against each other, we can expect the contests to get even more brutal, as only the fittest are allowed to survive in the Magic Kingdom.
