There’s also a new chapter of Deltarune.

Notable Releases from 10, 20, and 30 years ago:
Quickly recapping our notable titles; Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE is a great RPG that is, unfortunately, a little too long with generic dungeons. I know it’s supposed to be a crossover between Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem, but it really doesn’t feel like one, despite characters from each series showing up in support roles. The pop idol angle was a lot of fun, I thought, and led to some really great cutscenes and battles. I played the Switch port so can’t say much about how it ran on the Wii U, but having this portable was perfect. I could fire up on the Switch in handheld mode and play it siting on the couch while my wife watched TV.
I have nothing to say about Titan Quest, other than I thought it was published by Sega; guess not. Speaking of Sega, though, our 1996 notable title is the fighting game Golden Axe: The Duel. I don’t really understand Sega’s desire to turn this beat ’em up classic into a fighting game, other than to jump on hot trends in gaming. An arcade version was only released in Japan, but the Saturn port is, from what I understand, and arcade perfect release, so it’s not like we really missed anything in the West.
In notable films, I’ve never seen Finding Dory; was it good? Remember when we all got mad at Ellen a few years ago because she was mean? I really enjoyed Superman Returns but it was, at the time, considered a massive box office failure. Brandon Routh’s career never really took off, afterward, but he was great in Scott Pilgrim. I’m cheating a little bit with Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy, as it came out back in April of 1996. However, it was a huge box office bomb, meaning that you probably didn’t see it in theatres or, if you did, it was several weeks later after the cool kids in your school said it was hilarious.
While you might think it was a matter of “critics loved it/audiences hated it”, this is one of those instances where everyone was in agreement that the movie was bad. I, on the other hand, was one of the cool kids in school, LOL, j/k, I was a loser, but I knew that Brain Candy was a comedic masterpiece. The movie isn’t streaming anywhere for free (legally), but you can buy a digital copy or a blu-ray for pretty cheap. Listen to The cool kid of The Avocado and watch Brain Candy!
In notable albums, Gojira’s Magma is incredible, just incredible. I fired it up the other day and drove the extra long way home just so I could hear more of it. I don’t really like the band Muse, but their 2006 breakthrough Black Holes and Revelations is pretty good; I could easily listen to the first 4 or 5 songs on a loop and be perfectly content. The album contains what is arguably their most popular song, “Supermassive Black Hole”. Personally, I prefer “Starlight”, but I’m a little bit anti-establishment, so, you know.
30 years ago, in 1996, Jay-Z burst onto the music scene with his debut, Reasonable Doubt. It’s funny, I was the prime listening age for this album and I just do not remember it coming out at all. I always assumed that his early 2000’s stuff was his debut, but I guess not. To be fair, I was more interested in alternative and punk in 1996, but I was still watching MTV every day for hours. Whatever the reason, I completely missed out on Jay-Z and Reasonable Doubt, despite the album being a solid performer on the Billboard charts.
