Movieacados! Well tomorrow is surgery day and I definitely did not have time to write this prompt shortly beforehand so I am writing this one about two weeks early as a time capsule from the past (although you should see me in the comments). Even though the prompt from last week was not explicitly health care related eagle eyed readers might have noticed I exclusively featured doctors in the pictures accompanying my rambles. And as I stared at these various doctors for some time I thought more and more about their roles in movies and how they can drive a story/narrative, and to be even more specific, not just doctors as I am sure in the coming few days I will be interacting with a wide variety of medical types.

There is a full gamut for medical professionals in movies, be it as someone who delivers news that pushes the story forward, interacts with main/side characters in order to provide advice, context or wisdom that will drive the story forward, or maybe even as just someone who can drop a big exposition dump on the audience as we can get around to moving the story forward. They can be funny, insightful, dramatic, and so on, really there is no limits to how you want to utilize medicine in a movie as by it’s very nature the health profession can move stories in any direction, which for my money can be a diagnosis for entertainment.

So keeping it somewhat loose this week the prompt is pretty simple: Who is your favourite movie medical professional? This can be a lot of things from doctors, nurses, herbalists. Wong Fei Hung in movies was a kung-fu doctor specializing in acupuncture, so if want to highlight kung-fu doctors you have at least several Wong Fei Hung’s to choose from, and this is not even considering all the mad scientists/doctors from various horror/sci-fi projects. In the meantime discuss and have fun!
