Movieacados! In 2022 a movie was released that was technically available to be considered for Oscar nominations. It had everything a typical Oscar movie would have, a musical biopic, the main character fell down a rabbit hole of self destruction, a killer main song, and a tragic ending. And what did it get for all the highly researched effort? Nothing, not even a nomination. And yes I understand that these usually embellish the source material for dramatic effect, but that is no reason to deny Weird Al an Oscar for the Al Yankovic story now is it?
I bring this up because after four years I finally managed to watch Weird: The Al Yankovic Story and despite being a fairly large fan of his work I have never managed to sit down and watch it until now which was something of a travesty on my part (usual review below). And it definitely delivered where it counts, ie being funny, which in point of fact was the main thing I was looking for. And I was a little worried it would not be funny, or funny enough, or even worse: normal (okay I was never really worried about normal, but not funny was a definite worry). And like so many of us in the past I have bought into hype only to be disappointed time after time, although despite this sometimes we may that some movies do live up to the hype, as was the case with this movie. I got hyped, I had to wait, but in the end the laughter albiet delayed it was worth it for me.
Which leads me to today’s prompt: What is a movie you waited a long time for but was worth the wait? There are many reasons to wait for a movie. Growing up in a small town of less than 10,000 people we only had one screen to watch movies on so we got one a week and only big releases, or perhaps the movie is behind a subscription service that you do not have, or maybe an international movie not even currently available (like all the best Jackie Chan movies), either way one day you will get that chance, I have faith.
