The Avocado Weekly Movie Thread (03/03)

Movieacados! A while back I was having discussions with co-workers that were uncharacteristically pleasant. And one such topic turned to national animals, which is to say we discussed animals not transmogrified ourselves into them, and I relayed the fact that the Scottish National Animal was the Unicorn to which each participant relayed which mythical, fantasy or sci-fi creature we would choose for our own personal country’s flag (mine was the Rancor for full disclosure) and all the talk of movie animals so far this past month got me thinking about the imaginary ones.

The best part of imaginary animals is that there is pretty much no limitations to what we can create, and different settings offer different possibilities. Sci-fi creatures get to have special healing, acid blood, giant growth and any number other cool mutations. Or you can go completely in the other direction and have beings of pure magic and wonder allowing for things on your creature that would be impossible for it to survive or evolve into but look really cool. Any creature that is impossible in nature you get to just say ‘a wizard did it’. Either sci-fi or fantasy is where true creatives can shine and we get the pure movie magic that gives us iconic creatures such as the Xenomorph and I am here for that stuff all day.

So, with all that being said and with all that creativity up on screen this week’s prompt is simple: What is your favourite imaginary or non-existent movie animal/creature? And this week we have a rare follow-up bonus question: Which imaginary creature would be on your imaginary country’s flag? Have fun with this one, next week I am hoping to return to a more current event type prompt… once I look up what is coming out…

Mythical Fantasy and Sci-fi creatures.
