Hey, Avocados! As you know, after brilliantly organizing Giftmas for nine years, Jaye Tyler stepped down as organizer last year. I took over this year but really can’t take it over for good.
SO! We’re recruiting for one or two people to take over Giftmas. You can take it over just for 2026 or for 2026 and beyond. My thought is that it would be easier if someone or a pair can take over for a few years just for training purposes, but as long as someone is doing Giftmas, we’re good!
I have a five page walkthrough available, but here’s the very basics.
Who we need:
What you’ll do
In a bit more detail:
In September or October of 2026, you’ll get the Google Sheets and Form set up for responses. You’ll also go ahead and schedule all the various Giftmas posts: this part is super easy as you can just clone old posts and update as needed. Later in October, you’ll start spamming the Avocado letting people know to fill in the form to sign up.
After signups, the hardest work comes, setting up the Excel document and assigning giftees. I have the Excel document Jaye has been using with formulas in tact, and it works really well, but of course you’d be welcome to make changes to the process if that’s easier for you. After giftees and gifters are assigned you’ll email everyone letting them know who they got assigned. You can use a Mail Merge for this if preferred.
From then until actual Giftmas, you’ll want to monitor the Giftmas inbox to answer any questions, post reminders for people about Giftmas, and put up and check the Hype thread. On Giftmas day you’ll monitor threads, and then keep answering questions for a few weeks after as late gifts come in. You’ll also set up the Charity Drive in Givebutter and distribute funds.
Like I said, this could be done by a single person or two people working together. I think more than two and we’d have a “too many cooks” situation.
