The Friday Politics Thread Says No More Kings, Yet Again

We’ll just skip over that rosy bit about how the Pilgrims found the ‘place to call their own.’

Tomorrow (Oct. 18) brings us a second round of ‘No Kings’ protests across the country, because we now live in a country where that is a sentiment that needs to be expressed repeatedly. For the folks who are going out, stay safe and take care of yourselves. Wired has a couple of good guides for protestors, one a general guide to staying safe (except I’m not really here for the bit about ‘If you aren’t comfortable with potentially physically intervening, [and] shielding vulnerable protesters from police violence…your efforts to be an ally are likely better spent elsewhere’–that sounds like some bullshit) and the other a specific guide to protecting yourself digitally.

For the folks who aren’t going out, remember:

Resistance is NOT a one lane highway. Maybe your lane is protesting, maybe your lane is organizing, maybe your lane is counseling, maybe your lane is art activism, maybe your lane is surviving the day. Do NOT feel guilty for not occupying every lane. We need all of them.

Be nice to each other today, be nice to the mods, and don’t threaten Mayor McSquirrel, even if he has the nerve to tax your cup of tea.
