I AM 06/03 Night Thread – この腐敗した世界に落とさられた

Tonight’s Night Thread song is “Gekkou” by Chihiro Onitsuka.[footnote]“Gekkou” translates to “Moonlight” and you may also recognize it as the title of one million other Japanese songs.[/footnote]

The song rose to fame as the ending theme of the first season of turn-of-the-millennium Japanese supernatural-horror-mystery-comedy series TRICK.[footnote]Pretend I could type a backwards K somehow[/footnote] The opening lines are a mix of English and Japanese, and loosely translate to “I am god’s child, dropped into this world of rot, how do I live on such a field, I wasn’t born for this kind of thing.” (Did I mention the show’s a comedy?)

The ending visuals, done in perfectly uncanny CGI, feature infants growing into adults before transforming into skeletons and crumbling back into nothingness (again, a comedy!) But alas I cannot find a link to it on any legitimate corner of the internet. So instead here’s Onitsuka singing the song in concert. She’s pretty great at it!

Happy Night Threading!
