Here Comes Peter Cottontail is the Holiday Inn of Rankin/Bass outings, managing to fit several special occasions into one hour thanks to a time travel story that sends its titular bunny on a quest to save Easter. To do this, he must win a contest to deliver the most eggs, but alas, he sleeps through the big day, losing the contest to the villainous Irontail, and now he’s desperately attempting to do the job on other holidays to make up for it.

After being foiled on George Washington’s Birthday (look it up, whippersnappers), all seems lost for Peter. He is stuck with green eggs which nobody wants (apparently going to a Dr. Seuss fan convention isn’t an option), and has no way to give them away. He then makes an oath to…whatever deity it is bunny rabbits worship. He swears that he will be responsible from now on, and that is when luck finally intervenes in Peter’s favor.

For it’s St. Patrick’s Day! And that is the day that people will consume anything green, regardless of what it does for the color of their poop. This makes Peter’s green eggs an instant hit, so at long last, he gives them all away and wins the contest! (Sadly, everyone who eats the eggs dies of either lead or radiation poisoning, since they had been coated in like ten coats of paint and were about eleven months old, but hey, that’s not Peter’s problem).
