The Avocado Weekly Movie Thread (02/11)

I have run the numbers, double checked my calculations (for the record I LOVE calculations, any day I get to do math stuff at work automatically makes it better by a factor of X to the power of Y. X = number of calculations and Y = mean time it takes to complete calculating) dotted Ts and crossed my eyes and figured out that this is my six month anniversary doing the Weekly Movie Thread!

That is right, I had a thematic follow up to last week’s thread prompt but I am foregoing it in order to celebrate a made up significance of a date (also this gives me time to work out a few more prompts, but don’t worry I have a bunch in the tank still). While on the subject I love writing these prompts and I love the responses and comments I get each week. I actually read almost every comment everyone writes and have taken a ton of movie recommendations from here to watch for later. The discussions here are very courteous and I love the vibe in the comments section every week. All things considered I just look forward to writing these each week (usually a week in advance if I am on that ball, except this week because WordPress is messing with me big time, more on that in a bit), it has made Tuesdays Super Movie Fun Talk Day or SMFTD for short. I always wanted this to be a positive space to talk about movies we love, or were so so, and if necessary did not like, but in a respectful manner and it has delivered big time this past six months

But enough with the gushing, now it is time to talk business, and by business I mean movies, not business. Running with the rambling paragraphs above lets go with an anniversary prompt? This one can go either way What is your favourite anniversary scene, or movie with an anniversary scene? Or conversely what is your favourite movie nearing an anniversary worth celebrating? For scenes, I specifically remember So I married an Axe Murderer, particularly the scene where Mike Myers extra Scottish parents celebrate their wedding anniversary with many over the top antics from his extra extra Scottish dad (also played by Mike Myers… because of course he was). I actually did some research a few years ago when I was playing an overly Scottish half-orc who thought he was a dwarf D&D character a few years back (pre-pandemic for that character). For significant anniversaries I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that 2025 is the 50 year anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

No pictures past the header this week as WordPress is screwing up on me and I had to use mad hacking skillz and do a rush switch to classic editor mode and bang out this ramble a little quicker than I would normally like. I will learn stuff and hopefully do better next week. Here is to another six months of great discussions… and beyond.
