Movie Needle Drop Tournament – Nominations

4 years ago, a young lad by the name of BannerThief decided to start a Needle Drop Tournament, but it sadly never got past the nominations round.

Now, an even younger lad has received said banner thief’s blessings and decided on a whole new tournament to decide it: behold!

Ground Rules

  • I have decided to limit to just Film Needle Drops, whoever wishes to is free to start one for Television needle drops.
  • To borrow one of Banner’s rules, only songs used within the film itself. Playing over the credits/credits montages is fine, usage (only) in trailers/shorts are not.
  • Diegetic instances are allowed, as can be seen in banner image of choice (where Mozart is playing in The Shawshank Redemption).
  • One more rule I’m adding: Songs must not be composed, re-recorded or have whole new in-film performances for the movie’s purpose (so “Derezzed”, “Gonna Fly Now”, “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” etc. are disqualified, as will be all-new covers like Young Frankenstein‘s “Puttin’ on the Ritz” or a couple of performances from The Blues Brothers), we’re talking about already existing songs repurposed and refashioned for a new context, as some of the comments back then said: I don’t want this to be just another ‘best usage of music in film’ tournament. (Again, a tournament for those songs can be made another day!)

Nominations preferably to be in the form of: [Artist] “[Song]” – [Movie]

Nominations end 11 January, 9PM EDT.
