The Avocado Weekly Movie Thread (12/31)

Well, we made it, literally the last day of the year. After looking back last week I am always amazed at the creativity, fun and inspiration movies can provide me with every year. And even though I am writing this two days before last week’s post about favourite movies of the year goes live (look, I mastered time travel!) I can take it on 100% faith that I got more mentions of movies I would like to watch then I can possibly ever have time for, which is a pretty great problem to have in life.

So cutting right to the issue this week, because it is New Years and I am sure there are loads of plans, festivities and tomfoolery and some potential unintended buffoonery to boot. We are looking to the future which may look bleak in some aspects, but the great thing about movies is that there is always something to look forward to. So, this weeks prompt: What movie(s) are you most looking forward to in 2025?

For me the answer to this question is very simple: Legacy of Superman. Superman has emerged to be by far my favourite superhero. In my middling of age I cling to the message of hope and love all the writing that goes around that. He has leapt from the page in a single bound to take down the real life KKK (look that one up if you don’t know the story, it is so awesome). For the Man Who Has Everything is one of the best comic stories of all time, if not the best. And John Williams Superman Theme is one of my three desert island songs (that electric guitar version from the trailer should not work, but it really did for me). The initial trailer was solid (I will now avoid all media regarding this movie) and I typically like James Gunn’s work. All this means I am super excited for the movie but also super anxious as I have not had a real satisfactory theatrically released Superman movie in my lifetime, but for the moment I am caught up in that spirit of hope.
