Hello! Welcome to COTL, a discussion place for BIPOC. Posted the first 3 Wednesdays of the month
Thread Rules
- We ask that only those who identify as people of color participate in this discussion. White Avocados, while valued members of this community, should remain in ‘lurk’ mode.
- Shaming and hateful speech are unacceptable.
- Please keep potentially traumatic content safely behind spoiler tags.
- Nobody on this thread is more or less a person of color than anyone else. (We will not set clearly delineated boundaries on who qualifies as a ‘person of color.’ As a starting point, this thread uses the definition of ‘non-European heritage of sufficient prominence to affect one’s navigation of a society built on white normativity.’ However, we recognize that there are identities which skirt either side of the divide. If people feel that they meaningfully experience the identity of being a person of color, then they are welcome to participate.)
Last night there was a debate in the U.S. between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump:
Debate thread 9/10/24 – Harris vs. The Idiot
I tuned in (at 2am) for a minute or 2 & heard Kamala’s thoughtful, considered & well reasoned explanation for Abortion access (miscarriages, & other examples), but then Trump said “everyone wanted state rights, dems, Republicans,” etc & I was like m*therfucker, I’ve only just tuned in & the first sentence out of you is already a lie. 🤦🏾♀️
I ended up switching it off & following the dedicated debate threads comments, which were much smarter, funnier & more thoughtful than anything coming out of the Cheeto-in-chiefs mouth.
I don’t really know how racist it got tbh? Recently there’s been a lot of talk about Haitian immigrants and dogs (whistling) in the PT, but something I don’t see brought up is the awful atrocities being committed and the collapse of Haiti 😞. Hence the 20000 immigrants!
I feel like I’m the only one who wants to bring this up in the PT 1, whilst everyone else just wants to complain about racism on Twitter? Like some sort of sliding scale of what actually matters… & it ain’t Haitians or Palestinians? I’m not calling anyone out & people can vent or blame rightly, I just feel an overwhelming sense of grief at the broader picture.
People talk about equality, but all I see and feel are value based systems. This person is worth more than this one. This problem is bigger than this one, because it matters more to me? Like I can’t wrap my head around the selfishness? The endless repetitive cycle.
I dunno y’all. I think I’m probably conflating separate issues. I’ve been feeling pretty unwell.
As you may have noticed in the header (& heard elsewhere) R.I.P to the legend that was James Earl Jones.

Prompt: James Earl Jones: favourite parts, scenes, roles, etc? His legacy & influence on pop culture?
