As the secret author of the Eyes & Ears column in the school newspaper, Elizabeth Wakefield always listens out for new gossip. Generally, Caroline Pearce, the biggest mouth in school, would slip juicy stories to Elizabeth, but despite it being the first day, the hallways were filled with gossip about a green speedo and kleenex.
“I heard that they didn’t have enough streamers to decorate because Robin stole them all,” Lila Fowler laughs as she brushes through her silky brunette hair.
“Isn’t his father a billionaire? Why is he stealing?” Jessica Wakefield scoffs.
“He obviously has a massive inferiority complex and overcompensates,” Suzanne Devlin states as she gazes at her reflection.
Overjoyed at all the gossip, Elizabeth quickly grabs her pen and journal and jots down everything she hears. ‘This edition of the school paper is going to be the most popular in the school’s history!‘ Elizabeth happily thinks to herself.
Unbeknownst to Elizabeth, just over her shoulder stood Robin, reading everything she had written in her journal.
“How could you?” Robin cried, slapping Elizabeth’s journal out of her hands. “I just wanted to be cool for once in my life. I’m sick of this town, I’m running away to the circus!”
Elizabeth watches in shock as Robin flips down the hall and runs off campus. She picks up her journal and dusts off the cover. ‘He just gave me an even better story,’ Elizabeth smiled as she headed off to the journalism classroom.
