Mornin’ Politocadoes!
The upcoming election fills us Americans all with a deep sense of dread, also perhaps a little nausea. Our current President and our best chance at the country not falling to authoritarianism, has been busy antagonizing large parts of his voting base with vociferous support of Israel in its ongoing genocide of Palestine. The Ex-President, now officially the Crime President, is running against him and doing quite well in the polls. But what could make Trump, the Crime President, more viable? Well, maybe he needs a Veep!
A request for financial documents from the Trump campaign to 8 potential Veep picks has leaked the shortlist for Vice President. Not included among them is Mike Pence, Trump’s former Veep, the one who was almost hanged by Trump’s most rabid supporters on January 6th.
Some got more extensive requests for documentation than others, possibly information on whether or not they killed a dog and are proud of it. Ya know, the usual vetting process for Republicans.
In no particular order are:
- Sen. J.D. Vance (Ohio)
- North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum
- Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.)
- Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.)
- Ben Carson, former HUD Secretary
- Rep. Elise Stefanik (N.Y.)
- Rep. Byron Donalds (Fla.)
- Sen. Tom Cotton (Ark.)
None of these are terribly surprising. I find it quite funny that Ben Carson is up for consideration as well as “Lil Marco” Marco Rubio. Though the list is likely to change as we get further into the summer and closer to the Republican National Convention.
I’d say that of them, it’s probably Vance, Stefanik or Cotton. All have made their names pretty well known, Vance and Stefanik, in particular, have worked very hard to be in Trump’s good graces. They’re more grifters in my opinion but Trump likes lickspittles. Cotton, however, is a true believer so if there were anyone that the far right wanted in place for their Project 2025 nonsense to go forward, it’s probably gonna be him.
Again, all subject to change. Who had Mike Pence, of all people, in mind when he came onto the national stage? I think it’s vanity versus vengeance. Will he pick a toadie or someone who could be genuinely dangerous? Trump’s older now, I doubt he’s done much to change his lifestyle, hell, he nearly died in office last time. These are questions to ponder as barrel into another, uh, very bad election cycle.

Even if you are vaccinated, please continue to maintain social distancing measures, wear masks in public areas in accordance with CDC guidelines in regard to your own vaccination status.Also, according to recent polls approximately 50% of adults are not planning on getting their Covid-19 boosters. So please get them and older adults should also look to be vaccinated for RSV! It’s been difficult to get adults onboard with getting the RSV shots as it is.
