Welcome to The Avocado’s weekly discussion of Japanese pop culture! I recently watched a cute romantic comedy on Viki called Unexpected – Love Story in Maison Ginseiso (also known as The Woman Who Wants to Kick the Man She Is Addicted to –> ハマる男に蹴りたい女). This 10-episode series, based on a josei manga by Aki Amasawa, is a fun romance with a lot of charm. If you like enemies-to-lovers, adult romance (as opposed to high school), and/or share house settings, then I recommend you check this one out! The story also explores career setbacks, starting over, and dealing with family expectations/pressures. It isn’t changing the world with its story, but it is a fun watch with a satisfying conclusion. I really liked both of the leads (and the minor characters were good too! apparently they even have a spinoff mini-series, but I haven’t seen it yet), and it was easy to be invested in the romance and the story as a whole.
And, as always…
What have you been watching/reading/playing/eating/listening to lately?
Happy Wednesday! 🙂
