Ophiopogon planiscapus ‘Nigrescens’, the black mondo or lily grass, is a famous black variety of a little evergreen member of the asparagus family. It is used as ground cover by goths, emos, and people who learned their plantcraft in the early 2000’s, ahem*.

It has sweet little stalks of palest lilac flowers that give way to glossy blue-black berries. It does not normally have a balloon head.
