Earlier this year, I went with my sister’s family to Disneyland. I had suggested one of my favorite ones from childhood: the Peter Pan ride. My sister’s husband struck down that idea. He said he tried watching Peter Pan with the kids and he had to shut it off halfway through. You can probably guess which part.

My brother’s girlfriend didn’t defend the Disney version, which is still the most famous film adaptation of the story. But she did mention that most modern adaptations are very aware of the original story’s problematic portrayal of Native Americans and have been actively addressing the issue. Her favorite adaptation, incidentally, is Hook.

Personally mine is the 2003 version of Peter Pan with Jason Isaacs as Mr. Darling/Captain Hook. There are also two more recent versions: the prequel film Pan with Levi Miller as Peter Man and Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard and this year’s Peter Pan and Wendy, directed by The Green Knight’s David Lowery.

This year, it’s the 70th anniversary of Disney’s Peter Pan.

Today’s bonus prompt: what is your favorite version of Peter Pan?
