Marble Rally 2019: Race #6

A week after a humiliating eight-second loss to Red Number 3, these colourful balls of determination are back on the track to prove their mettle. But for the second week in a row, it’s a false start. Uh oh. Things aren’t looking great for our competitors, and viewers can sense the tension building. The second start sees our marbles racing out onto the track, but even it is imperfect, as El Capitan stays in the block for a couple of seconds to gain his composure. Nerves are the death knell in a race like this.1

This is not a good clean race; this is an all-out brawl, with so many lead changes that it’s downright dizzying. In the end, consistent performances from veterans Dragon’s Egg and Ghost Plasma nab them the first and third spots, while Pollo Loco grabs #2 with a late-race surge. After all’s said and done, Red Number 3 remains atop the overall standings, but Ghost Plasma has jumped up into second and narrowed the gap considerably.

Stray thoughts:

  • Cool Moody was in second for a while, but he finished all the way back in seventh. Disappointing for the only marble with a face.2
  • A disappointing showing from Black Knight, who had an opportunity to make a huge move up in the rankings with a legitimate run at a podium spot in this race, but his energy flagged by the end, and he fell all the way back to eighth.
  • I’m sensing a rivalry developing between Comet and Red Number 3, and it’s not going to be pretty.
