Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Dec. 5

Today’s contestants are:

– Kelly, a history teacher from California, is a virtuoso whistler;
– Chris, an operations control specialist from Illinois, sold socks to Meryl Streep; and
– Jennifer, a wine-tasting consultant from Michigan, loves puffins but has never seen one. Jennifer is a one-day champ with winnings of $45,200.

There was a lot of racing to the signaling device on some easy material in DJ, but champ Jennifer came out on top into FJ with $16,100 vs. $13,800 for Kelly and $5,800 for Chris.

DD1, $800 – ARCHAEOLOGY – The 1866 discovery & translation of “The Decree of Canopus” confirmed Champollion’s work translating this other artifact (Jennifer won $1,000 from her score of $1,200.)

DD2, $1,600 – GRAND OLD FLAGS – Around since 1817, Chile’s flag is known as La Estrella Solitaria, this name from another familiar flag (Jennifer added $2,000 to her total of $8,400 vs. $5,000 for Kelly.)

DD3, $1,600 – “B” SIEGE – During this 1900 rebellion, a siege of the International Quarter of Peking was broken with the timely help of the U.S. Marines (Jennifer picked up $2,500 from her score of $12,800 vs. $4,200 for Kelly.)

FJ – HOLIDAY SONGS – This song had its beginnings as a book handed out to children at Montgomery Ward

Jennifer and Chris were correct, with Jennifer adding $13,500 to win with $29,600 for a two-day total of $74,800. Jennifer now has a streak of eight straight correct responses to DDs and FJs.

Triple Stumper of the day: For some reason, Kelly and Chris were putting the early home of the NFL’s Patriots in Chicago baseball stadiums rather than where the Red Sox play, Fenway Park.

Shameless shilling: We had a clue about Sony-produced TV show Shark Tank, as well as an entire patience-testing category presented by streaming show host Jeff Goldblum, complete with plug from Alex.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is the Rosetta Stone?
DD2 – What is lone star?
DD3 – What is the Boxer Rebellion?
FJ – What is “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”?
