Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Nov. 28

Today’s contestants are:

– Alex, a data scientist from Illinois, had a Jeopardy! themed birthday party;
– Jamin, an economics professor from Tennessee, proposed and got his answer in sign language; and
– Ellen, a librarian from Massachusetts, just goes driving randomly with her boyfriend, even to Canada. Ellen is a one-day champ with winnings of $11,200.

Jamin took the lead on DD3 and was just able to hold first place into FJ with $10,600 vs. $9,788 for Alex and $6,400 for champ Ellen.

DD1, $800 – PAMPAS – This capital city of 13 million sits on the northeast edge of the Pampas (Alex lost $1,312 from her score of $1,400.)

DD2, $2,000 – MIRANDAS, RIGHT? – The smallest moon of Uranus, Miranda was discovered by this Dutchman, better known for his comet “Belt” (Alex added $2,500 to her score of $6,088 vs. $6,000 for Jamin.)

DD3 (video), $1,600 – STATUESQUE AUTHORS – Much of her 6th century B.C. poetry is lost, but her reputation as a female writing pioneer remains (Jamin won $3,000 from his score of $6,400 vs. $8,988 for Alex.)

FJ – WORD ORIGINS – From a Sanskrit word for “descent”, it’s the form a god takes upon descending to Earth

In the FJ category Word Origins, only Alex was correct, adding $3,013 to win with $12,801.

Triple Stumper of the day: Yesterday they didn’t know Billy Dee Williams, and today in the Colt category, the players weren’t familiar with the malt liquor that “works every time”, Colt 45.

Pedantry corner: Alex (the host) announced the correct response to a clue as “hippo”, but the category was 12-Letter Words, so only “hippopotamus” was acceptable.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is Buenos Aires?
DD2 – Who was Kuiper?
DD3 – Who was Sappho?
FJ – What is avatar?
