I know the Oktoberfest in Munich ended a couple of weeks ago, but these events are held all over the world throughout the month, so maybe you spent some time this weekend drinking beer and oompah-ing in your lederhosen.

When King Ludwig I of Bavaria married Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen, he gave his new bride a field (as one does when one is King of Bavaria). Therese wanted to use their wedding as an excuse to throw a party and invite everyone, so the field was the site of the very first Oktoberfest, which became an annual party that continues to this day.
