I don’t have much to say this week. There’s a lot of very interesting stuff happening, some of which may contribute to Trump being removed from office. If so, it can’t come soon enough, because he’s using his power as commander-in-chief to murder our allies by the thousands.
For years, Turkey’s government allowed Islamic State fighters to cross its territory into Syria. But, before Monday, there were no Islamic State fighter elements along Turkey’s border with Syria because Kurds, Arabs and Christians expelled them with help from the U.S. military. Today, these U.S. allies are running for their lives.
Under the guise of fighting terrorism and “securing” the border, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s real plan is to remove Kurds from that border and radically re-engineer local demographics. The initial Turkish attacks have already displaced an estimated 100,000 people, marking the fourth Turkish intervention in Syria since 2016.
Trump unilaterally decided to withdraw US forces from the area, despite their presence being the only thing preventing a Turkish invasion and ethnic cleansing. In fact, allowing this invasion was the explicit, stated reason for the decision.
How do we even talk about this? Everyone: “This decision is horrible! It will kill thousands of people!” Trump, basically: “Yeah, I know, that’s why I did it.” How do you respond to that? It’s kind of a conversation-stopper. Probably best to start by removing him from office, so he can’t do anything like this ever again.
