I’m in Chicago right now, presumably somewhere in the Loop and waiting, fittingly enough, for the Art Institute to open. Over the past couple of years, I’ve been doing more and more copying, something it took a long time to start, but I now try to make part of my routine whenever I go to museums or even much of anywhere that can count as a “third place.” It feels like a good way to not only work on my own skills but also better appreciate the achievements of other artists, not just the big names but lesser-known folks and even anonymous craftsfolk working as far as millennia ago.
Hopefully this’ll have positive effects down the road, not just for random illustrations and painting but also for more long-term projects like webcomics. Speaking of which, here are the third and fourth installments of Fairy Locks.
