Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Jun. 24 – Let’s meet today’s Teen Tournament contestants as the second round begins:
– Hannah, a senior from Connecticut, is studying Norwegian to better interact when she visits;
– Lucas, a junior from Florida, got kicked out of history class for talking about an obscene Roman emperor; and
– Justin, a freshman from Georgia, wants to be an Olympic swimmer.
Lucas stayed in control throughout but fell short of a runaway, entering FJ with $18,000 vs. $10,800 for Hannah. Justin lost everything on DD3 late in the game and finished at $0.
DD1 – $800 – ISLAND – A slang term for coffee comes from the name of this main Indonesian island (Lucas won the window maximum of $1,000.)
DD2, $1,600 – SHAKESPEARE’S CONTEMPORARIES – A Christopher Marlowe guy makes a deal he can’t back out of, as he’s written in blood, “Faustus gives to thee” this (Lucas lost $1,600 from his leading total of $8,400.)
DD3, $1,200 – YOUR OLD PAL AL GEBRA – Al knows that this word for the 3 in 8^3 can also mean a person who advocates in idea (Justin made the right move by wagering all of his $6,600 from third place with just two other clues remaining, but it just didn’t work out.)
FJ – COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES – Starting a university after his only son died in 1884, this man said, “The children of California shall be our children”
Only Lucas was correct on FJ, adding $3,601 to advance with $21,601.
Triple Stumper of the day: For a video clue about the familiar yoga position, no one came up with lotus, while Lucas won the comedy award of the day for his response of “criss cross applesauce”.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is Java?
DD2 – What is his soul?
DD3 – What is exponent?
FJ – What is Stanford? (Alex noted that Hannah is from Stamford, but that was no help.)
