Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Jun. 21 – Here are today’s Teen Tournament contestants, who all would advance to the next round if they can accumulate scores of over $18,000:
– Shriya, a sophomore from Michigan, did very well in the National Geographic Bee;
– Hannah, a senior from Connecticut, donates her hair for wigs; and
– Avi, a senior from Oregon, founded a dental hygiene non-profit.
Very competitive game in which Shriya scored on all three DDs and took a slim lead into FJ with $17,600 vs. $16,200 for Hannah and $14,200 for Avi.
DD1, (video) $1,000 – U.S. PRESIDENTS – The 400,000 men and women buried at Arlington include two U.S. Presidents — John F. Kennedy and this man, who was also Chief Justice (Shriya won $1,600 from her score of $2,000.)
DD2, (video) $1,600 – AROUND EUROPE – At almost 10 miles, Samaria Gorge on this largest Greek island is the longest gorge in Europe (Shriya won $2,000 from her total of $7,200.)
DD3, $1,200 – ONLY HALF SHOWED UP – We planned on forescore guests, but only half showed up, so now this many have to eat all the food (Shriya won $2,000 from his score of $15,600.)
FJ – COMPOUND WORDS – This 8-letter word can follow nuclear to refer to a dangerous accident, or mean total loss of emotional control
Everyone was correct on FJ. Avi bet $11,399 to advance with $25,599, while both Shriya ($5,400 to improve to $23,000) and Hannah ($2,000 to finish at $18,200) picked up wild card spots.
Musical miscues: No one knew the 2016 no. 1 album “I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It” is by The 1975. Also, in the “Only Half Showed Up” category, the players didn’t know that if Zooey Deschanel showed up without her musical partner, it would just be “She” (rather than She & Him).
One more thing: According to my closed captioning, when Shriya found DD3, Avi said “That’s not fair”. If he wants to see something truly unfair, I suggest he watch the episode with the “Gangster’s Paradise” ruling.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who was Taft?
DD2 – What is Crete?
DD3 – What is forty?
FJ – What is meltdown?
