This week’s Comic Book Chat was about Swamp Thing. One of the comments in the thread mentioned Man-Thing and the Heap and it got me thinking about Malibu Comics’ Sludge.

Created by Steve Gerber, Gary Martin, and Aaron Lopresti, Frank Hoag was a corrupt cop who, after refusing to kill a fellow officer, was seemingly murdered with a bomb. However, his body was doused in chemicals and wound up in a dump, where he mutated into an avenging monster known as Sludge. (Thanks to Superhero Wiki for the bio).

Sludge’s powers include: superhuman strength and durability, a healing factor, and the ability to cause spontaneous tissue growth in others by touch.
