Baskets is back-skets!
Due to personal reasons that I no longer remember, I fell off of watching Baskets season three for the last couple of episodes. I rewatched the season back in May, and I think my mild disappointment in the season wasn’t entirely earned. It was still a solid season of television.
Let’s recap what happened last year:
-Christine purchased a rodeo using the money she inherited from her mother
-Dale bought three horses for the rodeo at a steep discount – they turned out to be wild and aggressive
-In an effort to train the horses and gain the trust of the cowboys employed at the rodeo, Chip and Martha retrieve Eddie, former rodeo boss and now AA member
-Eddie trains the horses well, but relapses into alcoholism and crashes Chip’s clown car into a nearby Korean Baptist church
-Christine attempts to add some class to the rodeo (and get into the good graces of her so-called friends) by hosting a “Night at the Opera.” She significantly overspends, causing Dale to go into a panic, which manifests as significant back pain
-Dale begins to mentally spiral, and alienates everyone around him. Eventually, Ken the Carpet King – Christine’s boyfriend – gets fed up and slaps Dale
-Dale continues to spiral, attempting to drag both Christine and Ken into a lawsuit
-Christine rebuffs Ken for his actions, almost going into a spiral herself, but meets up with some of Chip’s French clown school alumni, who inspire both Christine and Chip to shed their old ways and start anew
-Chip burns the costume he wore as Renoir, and spends the rest of the season unsuccessfully pursuing a new clown identity
-Dale goes on a bender and winds up with a new fiancee – a woman named Shannon. She’s from Florida
-In an effort to heal, Christine and Ken rent a cabin in the mountains for New Year’s Eve, and invite their family to join. Dale and Shannon break up, and Dale pursues her into the freezing woods. Ken manages to rescue him, they share a touching heart-to-heart, and Ken gets both Chip’s and Dale’s blessing to propose to Christine.
-The last episode ends on a cliffhanger, where Ken proposes during the countdown, and Chip receives a phone call from Penelope just as the countdown approaches one. Will Christine say yes? Will Chip find a new identity, or regress back to his old ways? Will Dale be less insufferable? I guess we’ll find out!
Oh also Martha was the mistress of a shepherd and turned fifty and fell off of a stage while receiving a lap dance in Las Vegas.
Now let’s see what Cat People is all about!
