Jeopardy! recap for Fri., May 10 – Although they didn’t know it, all three of the players in day 5 of the 2019 Teachers Tournament could advance with scores of $8,400 or more:
– Elllie, high school world history from Tennessee, has map clothing and accessories;
– Benjamin, middle school English from Connecticut, is a hip-hop performer, which Alex wanted no part of attempting; and
– Dave, high school art from Wyoming, plays “Wheel of Fortune cookies” to Alex’s dismay.
Benjamin put the game away with a double-up to $18,000 on DD2, entering FJ with $22,000 while Ellie ($8,800) and Dave ($6,200) were both still alive for wild cards.
DD1, $1,000 – HALL PASS – Praise the Lord! The Fisk Jubilee Singers & The Mighty Clouds of Joy are members of this Hall of Fame (Benjamin won $1,000 from his score of $4,200.)
DD2, $800 – THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD – “The Drinking Gourd” was this group of stars that helped runaways find the North Star in the night sky (Benjamin won $9,000 on a true DD.)
DD3, $1,200 – TRYING TIMES – In 1735 John Peter Zenger was acquitted of this using the argument that printing the truth was not illegal (Dave lost $2,000 from his score of $5,000.)
FJ – U.S. STATES – This state entered the union in 1820 after separating from another state that began with the same 2 letters
Benjamin and Dave were correct on FJ. Benjamin added $1 to advance with $22,001 and Dave scored a wild card, picking up $6,100 to finish at $12,300. Ellie missed, dropping $8,799 to $1 and out of contention.
Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew the shuttle in which Sally Ride went to space in 1983 was the Challenger.
Missing the layup: In a category about Beatles songs by lyrics, even after Benjamin was incorrect with “Love”, his opponents couldn’t come up with “All You Need is Love”.
Correct Qs:

DD2 – What is the Big Dipper?
DD3 – What is libel?
