MLB TALK

• Checking in on a follow-up to last week, Travis d’Arnaud did not wait long to receive an offer to continue his career elsewhere, quickly agreeing to a one year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. While the Dodgers are currently getting solid production from the duo of Austin Barnes and Russell Martin at catcher, the plan is apparently to use d’Arnaud at multiple positions around the field. How that works out…we’ll see. d’Arnaud has little experience at other positions (Barnes and Martin by comparison have played far more extensively around the infield).

• Ho hum, another week and another top prospect has been promoted to the majors. Nick Senzel of the Cincinnati Reds is the latest promotion. A middle infielder by trade, he moved to the outfield to fast track his rise to the majors. Matt Kemp in the meantime was released and Scott Schebler was optioned to AAA clearing space for Senzel. While the Reds are currently in last place in the NL Central, its still early enough in the year where he could make a difference.

• The Cleveland Indians are in second place in the AL Central but they’re season has been a tough ride and it’s only getting tougher. An hard hit comebacker off the bat of the Marlins’ Brian Anderson ricocheted off of Kluber’s forearm and resulted in a fracture. Its not believed that he’ll require surgery which should mean a quicker recovery but that remains to be seen.

• Jake Peavy hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2016 and would sit out the 2017 season due to personal issues. There were rumors of a comeback attempt last summer but he failed to receive a contract offer (or at least not one to his liking I presume). He won the NL Cy Young award in 2007 with San Diego and was a part of two consecutive World Series winners (both times as a mid-season trade acquisition) in 2013 as part of the Red Sox and 2014 as a member of the Giants.
