Sports Corner – April 24, 2019

At long last, it’s here!  The NFL Draft! That three day celebration of young men being told where they get to work, of old men throwing darts at a board, and of wall to wall to wall to ceiling coverage of every last pick from Kyle Murray to Mr Irrelevant.  The draft is and always has been a crapshoot, right back to the start, when Jay Berwanger, the first ever draft pick, and the Bears couldn’t agree on a contract and Berwanger decided not to play pro football.  At all. That doesn’t seem likely now, but you never know.  (For more on Berwanger, I recoomend this humorous but oddly accurate video at SB Nation.

Elsewhere…

  • Two game sevens in the NHL last night, and one more tonight.  (The Isles must love being so well rested while the Caps and Canes are playing to the bitter end.)
  • Conversely, suspense is in low supply in the NBA.  Though maybe Denver and San Antonio will go to seven.
  • Another day, another Yankee on the DL, and another win.  Weird.
  • WNBA signs broadcast deal with CBS Sports Network

As always, all sports welcome.
