Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Apr. 23

Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Apr. 23 – Please welcome today’s contestants:

– Kevin, a principal from California, has an old stone from Rome;
– Claudia, a grant writer from Arizona, a “child bride” who can laugh at herself after 44 years of marriage; and
– James, a professional sports gambler from Nevada, whose dad’s anti-gambling lesson wasn’t exactly effective. James is a 13-day champ with winnings of $942,738.

James, who had a massive $20,000 after round one, was correct on all three DDs and dominated as usual, going into FJ with $68,816 vs. $8,400 for Claudia and $7,800 for Kevin.

DD1, $600 – MERCURY – While the planet Mercury doesn’t have rings or moons, it’s full of these with names like Bach, Beethoven & Tolstoy (James pushed for $8,200 and was correct.)

DD2, $1,200 – TALKING DEAD – “Cast a cold eye on life, on death, horseman, pass by!” says this poet’s tombstone in Ireland’s County Sligo (James won $10,016 from his score of $33,200.)

DD3, $1,600 – DO “OVER” – This organization says its only requirement for membership is a desire to stop consuming food compulsively (James picked up $20,000 from his total of $46,816.)

FJ – AMERICAN HISTORY – On May 1, 1869, these 2 men met at the White House, 4 years and 3 weeks after a more historic meeting between them

Everyone was correct on FJ, with James adding $50,000 to win with $118,816 and a 14-day total of $1,061,554.

That’s after our time: In a rock music category, the players were stumped on clues about Twenty One Pilots and a band from Las Vegas (the land of James), Panic! at the Disco.

Judging the writers: A clue about the 1938 “War of the Worlds” radio broadcast described it as “causing near-hysteria”, but it’s now believed that such reports were wildly exaggerated.

This day in Trebekistan: Alex attempted an impression of Ringo, but to me it sounded more like Ozzy.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – What are craters?
DD2 – Who was Yeats?
DD3 – What is Overeaters Anonymous?
FJ – Who were Lee and Grant?
