The concert film Stop Making Sense with live performances by the Talking Heads, directed by the late Jonathan Demme, is the best rock concert film EVER, and it’s now showing on Amazon Prime. It’s even better than The Kids Are Alright (which, if you want to compare and watch another superlative rock film, is also currently on Amazon Prime).
Some of my favorite moments:
*The first four songs, starting with David Byrne playing acoustic guitar solo on Psycho Killer and then adding Tina Weymouth for Heaven, then Chris Frantz for Thank You For Sending Me An Angel and Jerry Harrison for Found A Job.
*Slippery People, with the two backing singers (Lynn Mabry and Ednah Holt) dancing with Byrne and Steve Scales on bongos;
*Girlfriend Is Better, with Byrne in the big suit;
*This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) with Byrne dancing with the lamp;
*Once In A Lifetime, where Byrne slaps his forehead like Homer Simpson.
But it’s all fantastic. Go see it. NOW.
